The initial visit to MIDGEPROF was less than successful. We neglected to print out some critical paperwork prior to coming to Rwanda and the attorney that came to help us was not the attorney with whom we have been communicating, so things did not get off to a great start. While we knew going into this that it wouldn't be easy, today was certainly disappointing. We have the document situation taken care of and both attorneys now know what it going on with our situation. We will go back tomorrow and try again. Please pray things would go better and that the government would be open to us adopting from somewhere other than the orphanage.
After we the ministry visit we stopped at a Rwandan version of Wal-mart. This store has everything. You can buy a stove, a pan, and food to cook all at the same place. Not a huge selection of anything, but the necessities are there. Now we are back at the house making dinner.
Rwanda is absolutely beautiful. It is called the land of a thousand hills, but the hills are more like small mountains. It is so green. As you look out from one of the hills you see bright green grass dotted with red roof houses and spots or red earth. This morning we were woken up at 4:30 with the call to prayer. That wasn't my favorite thing today. Shortly before the sun came up the birds began singing. But these are not birds like we have at home. Sean said it was like waking up in a zoo. There were certainly some interesting bird calls. There is a school near the house so we get to hear children singing and playing, it truly is a wonderful thing to hear. The people here are absolutely beautiful. I have yet to see an overweight Rwandan. Everyone is well dressed. By that I mean most women wear skirts or dresses or slacks and men all wear slacks or nice jeans. No one wears shorts. Long sleeve shirts and sweaters were common despite the warm temperatures. Rain moved in this afternoon and cooled things off. Rwanda is just breath taking. So while today wasn't what we had hoped it would be, I am glad we're here. It is wonderful just to have the opportunity to learn about cultures other than our own.
This guy ran across the parking lot while we were waiting at MIDGEPROF. At first I thought it was a cat, but the tail was too long. So I took a closer look and a picture.

There were avocado trees all around the parking lot. Last night we had fresh avocado. Even Kate liked eating it. I've never seen avocado trees before, so this was pretty exciting for me.
Kate took this picture from the front porch this morning. The haze cleared off and we had a gorgeous view of the vibrant colors that make up Kigali.
